Darren joined Untamed in June 2007, replacing Miles Goodman. He started playing guitar when he was 16 and was hooked on metal from the start.

"I always wanted a guitar as I was growing up. Seeing films like Back to the Future, Bill and Ted and the Transformers movie actually got me obsessed with '80s metal and wanting to sound like that! Obviously my musical tastes went through Iron Maiden and Metallica to virtuoso guitarists such as Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Jason Becker and Yngwie Malmsteen, then on to death metal with bands like Decapitated and Death and, more recently, Arch Enemy, Nevermore and Opeth. I now take most of my inspiration from an amazing progressive metal band called Scar Symmetry. For me, it's the perfect blend of death metal vocals, melodic choruses and insane tapping solos, which I try to incorporate into the songs we play and take Untamed to a new level."

And what about future goals?

"I've finally found my dream jobs of playing guitar and tattooing (at Earl's Tattoo Studio, Stamford), which go hand in hand. So naturally, the plan is to keep doing what I'm doing, making it better. I'm busy writing songs and constructing solos for the album, so hopefully pre-production can start soon. Get ready for the onslaught, people!"

I would like to thank...

"Mum, Dad, Sabrina, Michelle and Victoria, Phil, Andy and Graham for being awesome friends, James, Igor, Stuart and Jon (outstanding musicians and great friends) and huge thanks to Colin, who continuously pushed me to put on a better show and to keep improving my guitar skills and made me a better guitar player. Thanks bro, you're a legend! And anyone else I've forgotten! Special thanks goes to Casey, Brandon and Summer for putting up with the long nights and constant practicing (I couldn't do it without you), Terry and Carol, JJ and Kirsty and to Chris and Patrick at Krank amps (for making the best amps on the planet!) and to all at Coffin Case."

Live Rig

Ibanez RGD7320Z, Fractal Axe Fx 2 xl plus, Krank cabs, Voodoo Lab Ground Control Pro midi foot controller, D'addario NYXL custom 7 string set, Line 6 Relay G55 wireless unit, Matrix gt1000fx power amp, Dunlop Gator Grip picks, Bareknuckle pickups, Rhino cases.

Bottom Line

"I've always preferred the heavier side of metal, but still tight and refined. The Axe fx lets me achieve that and allows me to tailor my tone to exactly how I like it. Crushing rhythm, lush chorused cleans, and face melting lead tones. Wouldn't have it any other way."
