Jon Sampson
Vocals
Jon is one of the original members of Untamed, having been in various bands before, spanning over 25 years.
"I've always sang, as far back as I can remember - school choirs, church choirs - even a Cathedral choir! My musical tastes have always been about melody, I used to love listening to bands like ELO, who combined guitars and strings - I always thought that was a perfect blend of sounds. Then I heard a track called Phantom of the Opera - I loved it! The next new track I heard was Number of the Beast, to my surprise, it was by the same band! So I went out and bought everything that Iron Maiden had done up to that point - I was hooked!"
He was invited to try out for a band, after a camping trip with some friends: "We had all been drinking, and were sat around a huge fire that we had built - someone was playing some tapes and we were all singing along, when I was asked if I'd like to try out for a band that a couple of my mates were in. To be honest, I'd never considered singing in a band!"
The turning point was that the band Jon was in with his mates, were asked to play at someone's birthday party. "We only knew about 8 songs, so we played them all twice! We really weren't very good, but at the end of the evening, we were paid £30! We couldn't believe it - we actually got paid for doing something we loved!"
The rest, as they say, is history...
Future plans?
"Getting the new album done and doing loads of gigs!"
